The NO BUTS! (Blocking Underage Tobacco Sales) program is dedicated to blocking underage tobacco sales. Underage tobacco use in Maine is a major public health risk and retailers play a critical role in helping to combat tobacco sales to youth.
Created jointly by the Maine State Attorney General’s Office and Partnership for a Tobacco Free Maine (PTM), the NO BUTS! program is in an effort to remind employers, managers and employees that tobacco sales to minors is not only wrong, it is illegal and results in stiff fines and penalties.
The NO BUTS! kit includes:
- A Step-by-Step Employer Guide for implementing the NO BUTS! program.
- DVD and Employee Guide for training sales clerks
- NO BUTS! window poster, door decal, and other materials to show that you are a NO BUTS! retailer
- Recommendations to further discourage underage tobacco sales
